SYMPTOM
The TV set frequently asks the user for permission to clear residual images.
Furthermore, if this dialog box is not dismissed within 2 minutes time, the TV set will switch to
standby mode automatically.
SOLUTION
This is intentional behavior in order to ensure that the OLED display is constantly operating with the
best possible performance. The OLED set employs mechanisms to clear residual images; these
mechanisms need to be executed in a certain frequency in order to achieve the desired result. The
residual image clearing mechanisms are also meant to maintain the longevity of the display.
These mechanisms will be executed in standby mode, invisible to the consumer, in order not to
impact the user or diminish / limit the viewing experience in any way.
Each cycle of residual image prevention will be scheduled once the set was running (accumulated) for
4hrs; a notification to the user will only be shown if the set was running for at least 10hrs without
having successfully (i.e. without interruption) executed these display maintenance mechanisms.
As the TV set will only execute the display maintenance mechanisms during standby mode, it is
therefore strongly advised to keep the set in standby mode, i.e. disconnecting the set from mains
(e.g. overnight) will effectively prevent these mechanisms from being executed, which is not
desirable.
When the aforementioned dialog box is shown:
Pressing “Later” will postpone the execution of the display maintenance mechanisms until
the next standby cycle; the dialog will re-appear if the set is not switched to standby (e.g. due
to powering off the set instead of switching it to standby mode); this will also be clearly
stated by a dialog that is invoked when pressing “Later”:
