SYMPTOM Unit fails to operate, power light flashes
CAUSE Failure of components on inverter PWB:
• Inverter detection circuit opto-coupler
• Inverter HV Capacitor
• Inverter transformer
ACTION When the lamp error count reaches five, the unit will not come on, even in the basic
service mode. If the fault is rectified, the unit still will not come on, unless the LCD
controller service mode is entered. Then the lamp error counter can be reset and the
unit will then work correctly. To enter the LCD controller service mode press Volume
Up and Channel Down together while turning the unit on.
It is therefore necessary to be able to test for a faulty component in the off condition.
Checking the HV Capacitor and transformer can be carried out using suitable test
equipment. Note that if one of the transformers is found to be faulty, then the correct
part number from the service manual parts listing will have to be used (not all the
transformers are the same).
As it is normally the diode section of the opto coupler that fails a diode check on this
can be carried out. This should give a volt drop of approximately 0.9V. The part
number for the opto coupler is given below - this is not the same part number as given
in the service manual.
